Scholarship Opportunities

The Women’s & Gender Studies Department is pleased to announce nine 2017-18 scholarship opportunities for students at Cal Poly.

SUSAN CURRIER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: $1050

The Susan Currier Memorial Scholarship is an award going to a student in the College of Liberal Arts. The student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA overall and financial need.  Preference will be given to students who have a disadvantaged background and/or who have overcome significant adversity and/or who make a valuable, current contribution to community service. 

VICKI AND DARELL FARRER SCHOLARSHIP: $1050

The Vicki and Darell Farrer Scholarship is an award going to a College of Engineering major OR Chemistry,      Physics or Statistics major in the College of Science and Mathematics who has demonstrated a commitment to women’s equality issues through serving as a leader in organizations that have the primary purpose of promoting women’s rights politically, economically and socially. The student should have a minimum 3.0 GPA overall. 

SARAH PERRYMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $1050

The Sarah Perryman Memorial Scholarship is an award to an undergraduate junior or senior majoring in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, or Physics. The recipient must have a minimum 3.2 GPA overall  and must have demonstrated a valuable, current contribution to community service, especially women’s equity. Preference may be given to an applicant who is first-generation college-educated and/or has a disadvantaged background. 

DR. SHIRLEY H. WALKER SCHOLARSHIP: $550

The Shirley H. Walker Scholarship is an award going to a student with a minimum 3.0 GPA that has demonstrated a commitment to women’s equality issues through serving as a leader in organizations that have the primary purpose of promoting women’s rights politically, economically and socially. 

RALPH R. WILMAR WOMEN'S EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES SCHOLARSHIP: $2,000 [5 available]

The Wilmar Scholarship is an award given to a Cal Poly student who has a strong interest and/or active participation in promoting or enhancing women’s educational opportunities. It is recommended that the student have a minimum 3.0 GPA. 


 

Things to note:

  • 5 scholarships available for Ralph R. Wilmar Scholarship. 
  • Amounts listed is amount per scholarship winner.
  • Graduate students are also eligible for all scholarships (except the Perryman). 
  • Please make sure that the student you are nominating will be attending Cal Poly full-time in Fall 2017.
  • Scholarship money is disbursed equally each quarter of full-time enrollment for the award year (2017-2018) or, with appropriate justification and funding available, scholarship money may be disbursed in its entirety at the beginning of the school year (Fall 2017).

 


STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ASK FACULTY AND STAFF FOR LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION.

 

How to Apply:

To apply, please submit ALL of following materials, altogether, prior to the deadline, April 14, 2017 at 5PM.

All scholarship applications must include:

  • Student resume
    • Please Note: There is no minimum or maximum length. The resume should be as short/long as appropriate to convey eligibility/merit. 
  • Student letter describing their eligibility for the scholarship(s)
    • Please Note: There is no minimum or maximum length. The letter should be as short/long as appropriate to convey eligibility/merit. 
  • Letter of recommendation from a Cal Poly faculty or staff member
    • Please Note: There is no minimum or maximum length. The letter should be as short/long as appropriate to convey eligibility/merit. 

To be considered, all 3 materials must be received by the WGS Department prior to the April 14, 2017 deadline. Missing and/or incomplete materials will not be considered. 

Materials may be emailed to wgs@calpoly.edu and/or kweldon@calpoly.edu, or mailed to Women's & Gender Studies Dept., California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA 93407-0875. Materials can also be turned into the Women's & Gender Studies Department office, 47-25H.
